AMY DABALOS TRIO: THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

San Jose native, Amy Dabalos has established herself as a mainstay in the Bay Area music scene. Dabalos possesses a unique mutability that complements the various styles she explores as a vocalist on the bandstand. Her voice is both powerful and luminescent: imbued with influence from legends Sarah Vaughan and Nancy Wilson. Elements of soul, R&B, and popular music decorate her distinctive repertoire, as inspired by contemporary artists Stevie Wonder, Esperanza Spalding, and Lianne La Havas.

At a young age, Amy was inspired by the creative power of music while a student in the Alum Rock Jazz Program. Her love of singing led to classical studies and operatic training at Chapman University Conservatory of Music in Southern California.

Dabalos has been a featured artist throughout the Bay Area, including Black CatCity Lights Theater, Cafe Stritch, Studio Grand Oakland, Cafe Pink House, 1300 on Fillmore, and the Continental Bar & Lounge. Most recently, she presented a specifically-constructed project, comprised of some of the most acclaimed local jazz talents at the 2016 San Jose Jazz Summer Fest.

Her most recent release, Affirmations (2015), premieres soulful, original compositions that showcase Amy exploring themes of self-love and emotional healing. Previous releases include Light (2014), an eclectic mixture of jazz-influenced covers, and Some Other Time, a 2011 collection of jazz standards. In addition to leading a jazz project under her name, she fronts an R&B and soul band, and lends her voice to John Worley’s Mo-Chi Quintet and The Bad Ones.

On the bandstand:

Amy Dabalos, voice
Bennett Roth-Newell, piano
Frederick Paclibon, bass
Mike Mitchell, drums
