A Tokyo native and Japanese jazz sensation, young Aya Takazawa dazzled audiences at last year’s Monterey Jazz Festival with her expressive trumpet power and style. Also an accomplished pianist, Aya’s trumpet prowess landed her in the first chair of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Fresh out of the Kunitachi Conservatory in Tokyo, Aya co-led an all-female Tokyo Brass Unit, which released a debut album that soared to the top of the Japanese jazz music charts. Japanese music media has declared her “one of the most promising trumpet players in all of Japan!” Jazz Life, Jazz Japan and others. With the release of her first album “Patterns” — which involved the Wynton Marsalis family — Aya established a reputation on the international jazz scene. Aya has performed at jazz festivals around the world and has appeared on stage with jazz legends in Japan and the US.
